What is One Piece?

The short, spoiler-free version.

One Piece is a Japanese adventure story by Eiichiro Oda, running since 1997 and now the best-selling comic ever made. It follows Monkey D. Luffy, a boy with a straw hat, a rubber body, and one stated goal: find the legendary treasure called the One Piece and become King of the Pirates. He sets out to gather a crew, and the story becomes the tale of that crew — their dreams, their fights, and the strange seas they cross.

What makes it endure isn't a secret twist we'd have to hide from you. It's that Oda plays a longer game than almost any storyteller alive: throwaway details return years later with meaning, the world keeps widening without falling apart, and the crew feels like a family you joined rather than a cast you watch.

Yes, it's long — that's the point

Over a thousand chapters of manga and episodes of anime. That number scares people off, but ask anyone who's caught up: the length is the reward. You're not bingeing a series; you're setting off on a voyage. Start it like one — no rush, no skipping ahead, and absolutely no googling. One search on a regular wiki can hand you a decade of the story.

That last problem is why this site exists. Pirate King is an encyclopedia that only knows what you know — set your chapter or episode and look up anything, safely.
